ugcylogoBacked by the Mayor of London and the former Higher Education Minister- David Lammy and Inspired by the 1993 blockbuster classic ‘Sister Act 2 – Back In The Habit’, UGCY is a voluntary organisation providing an unprecedented platform for University Gospel Choirs across the UK to develop and showcase their gospel musical abilities. It is an annual competition that aims to bring together talented and diverse individuals through music, encouraging them to strive for excellence and exceed their own limitations, whilst inspiring the young and old in all walks of life.

Since its creation in 2011, UGCY has held seven annual competitions, held a mass choir surprise performance in Europe’s largest shopping centre – Westfield, Stratford City, have made numerous appearances in the media such as on the BBC & ITV, all celebrating the talents of over 5000 individuals from various universities across the UK. UGCY prides itself in being able to offer opportunities and create platforms for talented individuals who may not have had the opportunity otherwise.

UGCY has worked with ITV’s the X-Factor, BGT and The Voice, have provided opportunities for gospel choirs at corporate events, on radio, TV and at various other events. Most recently in 2017, UGCY in partnership with our new talent agency - UV Talent, supplied choirs for ITV's The Voice, BGT, Sister Act Live and Devonshire Private Members club amongst many others!

Previously sponsored by UBS Investment bank, Accenture management consultancy and the British Gospel Arts, our goal is to bring together individuals through their common love for performing, not only providing them with the platform and opportunity to showcase their talents but allowing them to compete on a national scale – which is the first of its kind in the UK!

Above all, our vision is to encourage and empower University students to set up their own gospel choirs in all of the UK’s higher education institutions – contributing to developing a community spirit amongst students.
